“It’s not going to matter if you have a few scars. It will matter if you didn’t live.” – Rich Mullins

I’ve been contemplating this for a while, feeling the open wounds of sickness, loss and grief. Since writing last, we lost Nick’s dad – far too young and deeply missed. But somehow in that wake, we are just incredibly grateful for what Mark has taught us and left behind. Mark had scars… physical ones in spades and others too… but he lived. He lived so well, and that is a legacy we are blessed to carry on.

At Mark’s funeral, we sang a familiar Family Camp song together at his gravesite. It was a powerful thing to do together as we contemplated a man who lived this out.

Our Family’s Prayer

Come and fill our homes with your presence. You alone are worthy of our reverence.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We will serve the Lord.

Lord, we vow to live holy. Bowing our knees to You only. Staying together; praying together

Any storm we can weather. Trusting in God’s Word. We need each other; Fathers and Mothers

Sisters and Brothers, In harmony and love

Mark lived that out and taught his children to model that beautiful lifestyle as well. And I don’t know about you, but this makes me want to live well too…

Step by Step,
